Gas Plant and Contract Economic Analysis

  • Project Description – Designed and programmed a decision model for a producer to determine the best economic alternative for processing gas at alternative processing plants under a number of different contract structures and proposals. Provides for the automated input of plant and gas contract variables and allows the user to create and report on different scenarios among alternative plants, contracts and wellhead volume allocation schemes.
  • Application Software – Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic for Applications.
  • Project Benefits – Allowed management of the company to make more informed and timely decisions on existing contract elections, such as keep whole versus processing and ethane rejection options, and in negotiating new contracts with plant operators. Company realized an estimated $500,000 increase in annual gas processing revenues as a result of making more informed decisions from the information supplied by the system.

Plant Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Project Description – Modified GPIS 2000 to accept volumetric projections and other data in order to create an annual operating budget by month and a long range forecast by year. System imports analysis, contract, meter and other master file information from the GPIS 2000 database, projected wellhead volumes from reservoir engineering software, and projected residue gas and natural gas liquids prices from other sources. Automated routines utilize the GPIS 2000 settlement and allocation process to calculate budget data by month or forecast data by year. Budget or forecast data at the meter, wellhead and contract level is saved to a database, which allows highly detailed information to be exported by account and property identification number to the accounting system for comparison to actual results.
  • Application Software – SQL, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Visual Basic and Visual Basic for Applications.
  • Project Benefits – Provided management of the company with its first-ever reliable and verifiable plant budget since the budget was calculated using essentially the same system that accounted for gas plant operations on a monthly basis. Provided electronic budget data to the accounting department in the same format and at the same level of detail as actual monthly transactions, which facilitated and created efficiencies in the monitoring and explanation of variances between budget and actual results.

Gas Marketing System

  • Project Description – Designed and programmed a custom gas marketing system for a gathering system operator and production marketing company.  System provides a single-step one form process for capturing deal information while displaying updated balancing by delivery point.  System automatically determines a daily nomination scheme that can be adjusted manually before sending nominations to pipeline companies.  Confirmed monthly nominations are automatically allocated to daily nomination totals by deal for subsequent review and manual adjustment.  Adjusted confirmed nominations are matched up with deal records and pricing records to automatically generate monthly invoices.
  • Application Software – Microsoft Access and Visual Basic.
  • Project Benefits – Allowed the company to significantly reduce the amount of time involved in tracking and maintaining deals, nominations and invoices.

Imbalance Tracking System

  • Project Description – Designed and programmed an automated system to accept nominations for a gathering system operator and marketing company. System electronically imports daily and monthly wellhead and delivery point volumes from electronic flow meters. Daily and monthly volumes are automatically allocated to owners based on ownership interest, aggregated to determine owner entitlement volumes and compared to nominated volumes by owner in order to calculate and monitor daily and monthly imbalances. Automated reporting routines generate monthly summary imbalance statements and separate wellhead detail statements for each owner.
  • Application Software – Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic for Applications.
  • Project Benefits – Allowed the company to reduce the amount of time spent gathering and inputting data and monitoring daily and monthly imbalances from four hours per day to one hour per day.

Field Operations Reporting System

  • Project Description – Designed and programmed a system whereby field personnel in multiple field offices can input well operation data directly into a database system.  Accounting and billing information captured in the system can be exported and formatted as journal entries for upload into an accounting system.  Production data captured in the system can be automatically exported into a production system.  System allows for daily oil tank gauges to be captured and calculates daily inventory barrels and production barrels based on tank strapping increments.  Run ticket information is also captured and is used in the calculation of daily oil production.  System also allows for capture of field labor and equipment time by well serviced, water truck time and disposal of salt water barrels by well and various other operational data by well.
  • Application Software – Microsoft Access and Visual Basic for Applications.
  • Project Benefits – Allowed the company to reduce the time of processing paper reports from the field offices by accounting personnel from 8 days to 2 days.  Also allowed the company to reduce the field personnel time in completing paper reports from 2 hours per day per field person to approximately 45 minutes per day per field person.

Exploration Project Reporting System

  • Project Description – Developed and programmed an automated reporting system for a prospect generation and exploration company. System compiles data, including acreage, seismic and drilling costs from the accounting system, acreage statistics from the land system and reserve and future value data from the reservoir engineering system into various reports. Desktop access over a network allows management to selectively choose projects and reports to print or view the information for the selected projects.
  • Application Software – Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic for Applications.
  • Project Benefits – Allows management of the company to quickly generate on-demand reports in order to review and monitor the progress, status and economics of any or all projects in its inventory.
